Iowa’s licensed casinos and sports wagering operators generated nearly $21.4 million in state tax revenue for July 2026, according to figures provided to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
Casino gaming revenue was $136.1 million in July 2026, a 6.0% decrease from July 2025. State tax revenue, however, rose by 0.54% year-over-year. July 2026 is the first month of the State’s new fiscal year and the first to fully exclude promotional play from casino revenue. A gradual phase-out of the taxation of promotional play began in fiscal year 2022 with the passage of SF619.
“Because the state is no longer including any promotional play in taxable revenue, casino revenue numbers will look different from last year," Administrator Tina Eick said. “As a result, an overall decrease in casino revenue is not surprising. However, the slight year-over-year increase in tax collections shows a stable start to the fiscal year for casino revenue."
Monthly sports wagering revenue for July was flat at $17.97 million, a slight 0.16% decrease from last July. However, the wagering handle jumped to $182.9 million, an increase of more than $36 million year-over-year. The increase was likely driven by significant interest in the men’s World Cup.
Casino Revenue and Taxes
Iowa casinos reported a decrease of 6.04% in revenue compared with July 2025. Gaming taxes collected by the state increased 0.54% from July 2025:
- $136.11 million – Adjusted Gross Revenue
- $20.16 million – State Gaming Taxes
Sports Wagering Revenue and Taxes
Sports wagering operations in the state reported a 0.16% revenue decrease from July 2025. State taxes on sports wagering decreased by 0.09% compared with July 2025:
- $18.0 million – Sports Wagering Revenue
- $1.21 million – State Sports Wagering Taxes
