Statewide Self-Exclusions for Casinos

Monday, June 5, 2017

On May 11, 2017, Governor Branstad signed SF 442 into law.  This legislation becomes effective on July 1, 2017, and among other provisions and changes to the self-exclusion process for Iowa casinos, it provides for a process for individuals that signed lifetime statewide exclusions from Iowa casinos prior to July 1, 2017 to have the ability to file a form with the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission to revoke a lifetime statewide exclusion from Iowa casinos.  Please read the text of the bill for further information at:

SF 442

For revocation of a self-exclusion, the following must be true:

  • Individuals applying for revocation must have signed a lifetime statewide exclusion form.  Self-exclusions from individual Iowa casinos are not affected by this legislation.  Please contact the specific casino for questions about individual self-exclusions.
  • The lifetime statewide exclusion form must have been signed prior to July 1, 2017.
  • To be eligible, the lifetime statewide exclusion must have been signed at least 5 years prior to application to the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission for removal from the Lifetime Statewide Exclusion list.

Currently, the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission is working with the casino industry to implement a form, as prescribed by the legislation.  Please watch this space for updates on what this process will be.  No filings for revocation of a lifetime statewide exclusion list will be accepted prior to July 1, 2017.

Please use this contact form if you have any questions regarding this announcement.  Until a process is established, the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission will be unable to honor any requests to send future forms or details.
